Kolachy Days and Marching with Mary

On a hot summer day, a group of joyful Catholics braved the temperatures to participate in a special event. Coordinated by Kathy Ruhland, our group of 20 carried Our Lady of Fatima in a parade that was as much a celebration of faith as it was a festive community gathering.

The parade was a sight to behold, with many generations coming together in unity. The fourth-degree Knights added a touch of solemnity to the event, while children made the sign of the cross, their innocent faith touching the hearts of onlookers.

Our group was a vibrant mix of people, and as we marched, we handed out lots of candy, bringing smiles to the faces of children and adults alike. The parade attendees, many dressed in traditional fashions, added a touch of nostalgia to the event.

The parade started at the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and ran along 3rd St. SW to Oak Ave. SW. From there, it turned left and ran straight down Oak Ave. SW to the Montgomery Public Library, finally heading north on 1st Street in Historic Downtown Montgomery. The parade lasted around 90 minutes to 2 hours.

The Parade is a festive event. It was also a mission - our mission to take up space for God and remind parade attendees that God wants each of us to draw close to Him through His Mother. We distributed fliers on how to pray the rosary and exclaimed "Ave Maria!" as we marched with Mary.

One of the highlights of the event was the distribution of fliers about an upcoming International Fatima Statue Tour this September. This statue is miraculous, and many graces are received by those who venerate her.

That morning, we had received reports that the power in Paris, France, had gone out the night before, with the only light being the Church of the Sacred Heart! Our group venerated the Sacred Heart of Jesus by bearing His heart on a bold, beautiful flag.

The Grand Day Parade is one of Minnesota's finest parades, and we were honored to be a part of it. We look forward to continuing to march with Mary, spreading joy, faith, and the love of God to all.
